A planet-angle line is an astrocartography line identified by both a planet and one of four angles: Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven or Imum Coeli.
How to read any astrocartography line
Start with the label in full. Planet answers “what theme?” and angle answers “where in life?” The Ascendant (ASC or AC) is associated with identity, embodiment and how you meet a place. The Descendant (DSC or DC) shifts the reading toward partners, clients and open one-to-one dynamics. The Midheaven (MC) concerns public role, reputation and direction. The Imum Coeli (IC) concerns home, roots and private foundations.
Then add two checks the shorthand often omits. First, measure the shortest real distance from the city to the line rather than judging a small world map by eye; the line-distance guide explains why no universal scientifically validated radius exists. Second, compare the symbolic reading with practical facts: work, cost, immigration status, language, healthcare, relationships and safety. These are not footnotes to the map; they are the gates a viable move must pass.
The astronomical geometry and the astrological interpretation are different claims. A calculation can locate where a planet was angular at a recorded birth moment, while the life meanings assigned to that geometry remain interpretive. No angle is inherently stronger or better. MC is useful when the question is public contribution; IC can matter more when the decision is about home and belonging. ASC and DSC are the two ends of the horizon axis, just as MC and IC are the two ends of the meridian axis. The goal determines which doorway deserves more weight.

The matrix makes the limits of “good line” and “bad line” lists obvious. Jupiter can symbolise growth and also excess. Saturn can feel restrictive and also support the exact long-term discipline a goal requires. Neptune can support imagination while making verification more important. The useful question is not which line wins, but which combination matches the goal and which trade-off you are prepared to manage.
Turn the matrix into a city shortlist
- Name the goal. Career visibility, partnership, home, study and recovery point to different angles.
- Choose two or three viable places. A focused comparison is more useful than asking a map to rank the entire world.
- Record the exact combination and distance. Write “Venus–DSC, 74 km,” not simply “Venus near Italy.”
- Check the natal and relocated chart. The same planet can carry different personal context, and the relocated houses add city-level detail. Use the relocated-chart workflow.
- Apply practical gates. Remove places that fail non-negotiables before symbolism becomes a tiebreaker.
- Calibrate against lived places. Compare the reading with cities you already know; your own experience should outrank a generic description.

What is a planet × angle combination?
It is the full label of an astrocartography line: a planet supplies the symbolic theme and ASC, DSC, MC or IC identifies the life area where astrologers traditionally read it. Venus–DSC and Venus–MC are therefore related but not interchangeable.
Which angle is best for career?
MC is the angle most directly associated with career, reputation and public responsibility, but the planet determines the style. Sun–MC, Jupiter–MC, Saturn–MC and Mars–MC describe very different trade-offs, and none guarantees professional success.
Which astrocartography line is best for love?
Venus–DSC is the classic relationship combination, while Moon–DSC and Jupiter–DSC can also be relevant in traditional interpretation. A line cannot guarantee a partner; natal context, real social conditions and personal choices remain decisive.
Are difficult planets always bad?
No. Mars, Saturn and Pluto can symbolise conflict, pressure or intensity, but also courage, discipline and deep change. Suitability depends on the goal, the angle, natal context and the trade-offs a person can realistically carry.
How close must a city be to a line?
There is no scientifically validated universal radius. Use a stated distance convention, compare the shortest geographic distance and give a nearby line more weight than a distant one. Do not estimate from a small flat map alone.
