Two astrocartography maps can differ because they use different birth inputs, time-zone conversions, planet-angle lines, calculation conventions or display layers. Compare those settings before deciding which interpretation to trust. This seven-step worksheet separates a reproducible calculation check from a visual difference or an unresolved method question.
1. Match the original birth record, including the calendar date
Write the source date, local clock time and birthplace once, then copy that record into both tools. Check month/day order, AM versus PM and whether a midnight birth belongs to the preceding or following date. A remembered rounded time and a recorded minute are different inputs. Do not quietly replace uncertainty with a precise-looking number.
Keep a small comparison note with the input shown by each calculator. If the record says approximately 08:30, label it approximate in your notes. First compare tools with the same input; afterward test plausible alternative times. Mixing those two tasks makes it impossible to identify whether the difference comes from the software or the record.
2. Compare the UTC conversion before comparing cities
A local clock reading needs its historical time-zone offset to identify a moment in UTC. Check the selected birthplace, date and daylight-saving treatment. Do not apply today's offset to an old birth date or add a daylight-saving hour manually when the tool already accounts for it. The IANA Time Zone Database documents historical local-time information and its revisions.
For an illustrative conversion, 10:00 local at UTC+02:00 represents 08:00 UTC, while 10:00 at UTC+01:00 represents 09:00 UTC. This arithmetic example does not establish the correct historical offset for any particular place. If two tools show different UTC moments, resolve that discrepancy before interpreting their maps.
3. Compare the same planet and the same angle
A Venus ASC line and a Venus DSC line are different objects even if both are green. MC and IC are different again. Colours are interface conventions, so use written planet names and angle labels. Hide other planets temporarily and select one line that both tools explicitly identify.

4. Separate core lines from optional map layers
Some interfaces also display aspect lines, parans, transits or local-space paths. These are additional techniques or overlays, not interchangeable names for the four core angular lines. Start with the natal planet-angle layer only. Record the settings you disabled so you can restore them once the base comparison is complete.

5. Check calculation conventions before blaming the map
A provider may calculate rising and setting paths using a planet's actual celestial latitude, or offer a zodiacal projection convention. Astrodienst's Other maps FAQ discusses planetary latitude when comparing astrocartography with relocated charts. Ask which convention each tool uses, particularly when a discrepancy affects some lines more than others.
A tropical or sidereal label alone is not a sufficient explanation. Identify what the program actually recalculates. Compare the documented geometry, selected bodies and settings. If documentation does not establish a like-for-like comparison, record the method as unresolved instead of announcing that one provider is accurate and another wrong.
6. Compare coordinates, not the visual width of a screenshot
Zoom, map projection, line thickness and label placement can make the same path look different. Select the same city or coordinate in each tool and inspect the line identification and any distance readout. A screenshot at world scale is a poor instrument for deciding whether a line crosses a particular neighbourhood.
Keep units consistent: kilometres and miles are not interchangeable. A shaded influence band is also different from the calculated centre line. Its width expresses a chosen interpretive allowance, not the uncertainty of the astronomical calculation. 7. Save a reproducible comparison and test one change at a time
Record both tool names, access dates, input values and visible settings. Select one planet-angle pair and one comparison coordinate. Correct one mismatch, regenerate both outputs and note what changed. If several settings change together, a closer-looking result does not reveal which change caused it.

What agreement between two maps can and cannot tell you
Agreement can show that the selected inputs and calculations are consistent at the scale you checked. It does not establish that a city will improve a relationship, career or health. Mathematical consistency and evidence for an astrological interpretation are separate questions. Avoid choosing the map whose interpretation simply sounds more appealing.
